8 Moro dogs earn/maintain CHIC certificates

September 1, 2021

Furiosa, Natus, San, Sif, Pallas, Lilith, Opal, and Nova earn/maintain certificates from the Canine Health Information Center (CHIC). Moro dogs make up 9 of the 10 dogs in the White Swiss Shepherd breed to earn this distinction with the Orthopedic Health Information’s CHIC program. This means they have been health tested for hips, elbows, eye, cardiac, thyroid, dentition, degenerative myelopathy (DM), and multi-drug sensitivity (MDR1). Our dogs have also had additional health screenings for patella, von Willebrand’s type 1 (vWD), and hemophilia A. These last two tests are known issues in the GSD, with which the WSS share a genetic history.
The more we know about the genetic attributes of our breedstock, the safer and better informed choices we can make in producing healthy puppies as well as improving our breed’s incidence of the above testable diseases.
